A Place to Get Away, New Harmony, Indiana

If you are looking for a great place to get away, New Harmony, Indiana is worth a look. It is located 2  1/2 hrs both from St. Louis, Mo. and Louisville, Ky off I-64, at exit 4. It is a small historic Main street town with small local business downtown. Art galleries and antique shops, along with our locally owned pharmacy, florist and bank are here to fill your needs while you visit us. A clothing and antiques store and a coffee shop. Starting in March each year you can take a tour and learn the history starting at the modern visitor's center, the Atheneum which is run by Historic New Harmony, a part of The University of Southern Indiana. A florist and a gift shop too. Stroll Main Street with a refreshment and take in the architecture. New Harmony's shops are located inside the 19th Century buildings that line the streets. On the secondary streets you will find homes, gardens and small parks to sit and ponder. Any season offers a different look, so visit anytime. Spring is Here & the Golf Carts are buzzing...

Spring is here and New Harmony is waking up like a perennials pops out of the ground to bloom. The locals are using their golf carts and walking to get around everyday now that the weather is warm. It feels like small town USA everyday. We get to see each other in town, people that we have not seen all winter. It almost feels like we are coming out of hibernation. We are all happy to live in a place that has a scenic background. We live in a place that is like a movie set. The scenery is all like something out of a great movie. From the river bridge to the downtown architecture, we in New Harmony have something special, a town that we get to experience visually everytime we go out into it. Plant and flower gardens that are well manicured, several parks with benches or a playground, artist made sculptures that are strategically placed for the enjoyment of others. Historic sites that are visited year round by tourists. We live in a Utopian Community, and there are only less than a dozen historic utopian communities in the USA.

Coming to New Harmony is well worth it if you enjoy a quite stroll down a tree lined street or like to find places outdoors to reflect. New Harmony is a very spiritual place. A step back in time. A great time to visit New Harmony is once a season, for two or three days so you can have time to experience what we get to when living here. Hope to see you soon.
