Living my Dream....being on a permanent vacation.

When you live in a town that people come to so that they can rest and relax, you live in permanent vacation mode. Walking around town in the afternoons or evenings after working in my antique shop, I am reminded of this. It is so beautiful here in New Harmony. The gardens, river trail and historic buildings are great landscapes. Everywhere you look can be a painting. The bridge at the river is from the 1960s with a lit sign on both ends, one says Welcome to New Harmony Ind. and the other says Welcome to Illinois. The downtown area's buildings are all built in the late 1800s to early 1900s and are marked or dated. The clock tower at the Historic Ribeyre Gymnasium rings on the hour and half an hour. The original settler's buildings are still standing and have been restored, along with many of their artifacts on display when you take the tour. Our visitor's center, The Atheneum designed by a world known architect. One thing after another of unbelievable historical value. The Roofless Church stands without a roof so that it stands for not one denomination of religion but stands for God. Then you go into the shops that are full of one of a kind finds which are the best gifts when you are buying for someone special. I suggest if you have never come to a small main street town for a vacation in a while, to take a trip here to New Harmony, Indiana. You can drive directly on one interstate #64 from St. Louis MO or Louisville Ky around a 2 1/2 hr drive or fly into the small airport in Evansville. Stay at the New Harmony Inn (which may have a shuttle from the airport if you ask them when making reservations) or one of our Beds and Breakfasts, eat at the Red Geranium and the Yellow Tavern. There is so much to enjoy here. The book you have not had time to read, bring it. Rent a golf cart for the day and drive around town, yes you can drive all over town. Its a great place to visit but even a better place to live!
